What unfolded was a quiet, deeply restorative few days - exactly what we needed right after the wedding.
Newly-married couple
Upper Kumaon, 6,500ft ASL. 1,000 acres of private forest. Seven private suites and cottages. A few days that belong only to the two of you.

Most honeymoon itineraries are built for sightseeing - a list of places to be photographed in front of. Jhaltola is built for the opposite. There's nothing to check off. Just a verandah, a fire, a forest, and each other.
The seven suites and cottages are spread across the estate for privacy, not proximity. You won't share a breakfast table with strangers unless you want to. The 1,000 acres around you are quiet enough that the only conversation you'll have to keep up is your own.
This is a place for the two of you to slow down together, before life speeds back up.
No alarms. No schedule. Just the two of you, the mist still sitting in the valley, and the first cup of the day.
The table laid outdoors, birdsong instead of a menu card, and no reason to hurry through it.
Raju leads you into the Jadapani and Lambakeshwar trails - old oak, wild orchids, and enough quiet that you'll end up talking about things you don't usually get to.
Lunch carried in and laid out wherever the trail opens up - no fixed spot, no one else around.
Read on the verandah, nap, or do nothing at all. The kind of unhurried afternoon that doesn't happen back home.
Home-style Pahari food, firelight, warm layers, and a table you're in no hurry to leave.
Pack light. Leave the schedule at home.
Footwear
Comfortable walking shoes for the forest trails
Layers
Warm layers - evenings drop noticeably after sunset
For the fire
Something to read aloud to each other, if you're both that kind
A camera
For the two of you - not for anyone else's feed
Least of all
Any fixed plan for how the days should go
Chaukori, Munsiyari, and Binsar are lovely, well-loved parts of these hills - and increasingly well-visited ones, with homestays and viewpoints that fill up in season.
Jhaltola is 1,000 acres of private forest with only 7 suites and cottages - a single estate, not a cluster of stays sharing the same viewpoint. What you get is a place that's genuinely yours for the days you're here, not a well-photographed spot you're sharing with everyone else who found the same place online.

The kind of place where nobody asks you to do anything. We just sat by the fire most evenings.
